Wall Decals from Blik

I have just recently been discovering wall graphics and decals and I have to tell you that I love the whole entire idea.  At first, I just started seeing words.  You could order a particular saying in any font you’d like to place along a hallway wall or above a headboard.  But now I’m seeing wall graphics that can really do much more for your walls than paint and are not as obtrusive as wallpaper can be at times – though I’m falling in love with wallpaper again.  Recently, I came upon a company that’s taking these wall graphics further than I had even seen them go and I do love some of their designs.  Though many others are just not my taste, it’s awesome to see what people would put on their walls to suit them.

Some of you may be wondering that if these things are so cool, why would someone put them up on a wall of a place they won’t be at long.  Well, that’s all covered here: they are removable and the first of their kind.  That is honestly the best part to me.

The company that makes these awesome wall graphics is called Blik.  It was started by Scott Flora, an architect, and Jerine Neils, a food writer, when they wanted to do something with their walls but painting and wallpaper were just too permanent.  What they wanted wasn’t out there, so they created it themselves!  Blik has won the Product Design Distinction Award for Furniture from the I.D. Design Annual, as well as participating in the 2006 National Design Triennial at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum along with Google, Nike, Apple and others.

They sell predesigned wall graphics like two of my favorites Calla and Rose, as well as custom design your wall graphic.  And these wall graphics aren’t just for your teenagers bedroom or your modern sitting area.  Oh no, no, no, these babies are plastered all over the interior of offices,  are used as marketing for the front of a company’s building and even cover the every wall of a room in the Santa Monica, CA Public Library.

For an example, before you head off to check these guys out, here are my two favs:

The Calla Graphic

The Calla graphic stands 6 feet tall and comes in a set of three flowers ($70). Installation is harder than some other Blik designs, earning the highest degree-of-difficulty rating, “grab a pal.”  But I love calla lilies and would adore these in my home.

The Rose Graphic

Rose is available in black or white and comes with two branches of blooms ($60). Degree of difficulty: “a worthwhile challenge.”  I just think they look like Alice In Wonderland and would be a great conversation starter.
