Designer of the Week: Katie Ridder

Katie Ridder’s designs are modern and sophisticated, simple and tasteful.  She seems to love using a lot of colors as well as wallpaper – many she has designed herself.   And I’m crazy about that!  Looking at some of the spaces she has designed, I can’t help but notice how simply and minimally she designs and decorates.  Solid colors all over with touches of striking patterns, make for such a gorgeous palette that she doesn’t need to add a lot of decor pieces on tables or artwork on the walls.  Her projects combine comfort, practicality and sophisticated color while mindful of the architectural surroundings.

Ridder is a former editor for House & Garden and House Beautiful, who after establishing a retail home furnishings store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, started her design firm.  She has since been featured in magazines and newspapers such as Elle Decor,  The New York Times, Town & Country, Domino and House Beautiful.  Elle Decor says this of Ridder in their Top 100 Designers:

“Ridder is strikingly adept at merging exotic references (from Morocco, Turkey, the Middle East) with unusually patterned wallpaper and fabrics. She also creates upholstered furniture with sprightly silhouettes, such as headboards sculpted into romantic arches. The results are cheerful and worldly boho-chic spaces saturated with color, whimsy, and couture touches.”
