If you have a traditionally design home, you probably love dobs and dobs of accents. Every pillow must have a trim on it. Every occasional seating better have cording on the seams, fringe on the base and the dining table must have a runner, seat covers, and rolled chair backs.
If you are sitting in your very traditional home but have windows that just aren’t nearly as overdone as the rest of your house, don’t worry, there are lots of things you can do.
Before doing your window coverings, I recommend looking through a few window treatment books. They are great to pull different ideas from. You don’t have to copy someone else’s design completely, but can pull ideas from different ones to make your own.
Thing about very traditional design, it really is about the embellishments. You can add as much as you want and it will fit right in with the rest of your overdesigned space. I personally tend to be a minimalist, but extremely traditional window coverings are where I let loose. Trim, fringe, cording, triple width window coverings with a puddle on the bottom, add a window valance, throw on some banding around the edge and your done!
I think that as long as you keep a general theme in your extremely traditional home and use colors that are current and not dated, like pastels, you will be just fine. Uber traditional isn’t for everyone, but it certainly is for some. So have fun over embellishing your window treatment.
