DIY Weekend Project: Fabric Covered Picture Frames

Ever hated your old picture frames?  I have.  I love pictures.  I love to take them and display them.  However, I refuse to display them in nasty, old, ugly or outdated frames.  But who has the money to go out and buy a bunch of picture frames to fill their home?  I mean, I guess some of you may, but I don’t.  Also, it’s such a waste to toss your old frames.  If you want a cool way to refurbish your old frames - and be green while doing it – cover them with fabric.  Depending on the fabric you choose, you can add texture and fun design to your photos.  This one comes from good ol’ Martha Stewart.

First, remove the frame’s glass and back panel. Create a template by tracing the frame onto kraft paper.  Next, measure the frame’s outer and inner edges, and then mark it on the template. Measure the width of all four sides of the frame’s back, and mark as well. Cut out template; trim corners. Affix a sheet of mounting adhesive (sold at office-supply stores) to your fabric of choice. Trace template onto the adhesive’s back. Cut out frame cover. Remove adhesive’s backing, and affix cover to frame. Using fabric glue, attach a 1/8-inch ribbon to the inner edge of the frame. Let dry.
