The first time showering outdoors comes into your mind, you probably think of all your neighbors gawking in amazement that you are outdoors and nude for everyone to see. Personally, I think about all the war movies I’ve seen where soldiers are showering in outdoor wooden fence showers yelling and laughing at their other comrades. So, would you shower outdoors? Well maybe if you had a beach house and needed to rinse the sand off your body when you come back to the house, but actually getting naked may be another story. Let me tell you that if I lived in a remote location or had an enclosed area that no one could see into, I would totally do it! Just in case you are not as enthused about the idea as I am, here are some outdoor showers to inspire you.
This style of outdoor shower would be great for people who are often busy outdoors or attached to your beach house. You can either just use it to rinse off, or take a full on shower with soap and loofas. As you can tell, their is a shower curtain so privacy will not really be an issue. Plus, they have installed a shelf for your shower essentials as well as towel hooks and a side table for extra clean towels. With this style, you can add intrigue and color to your exterior while remaining clean and not putting dirt and grime into your homes drains. If you don’t feel you need a curtain, this wall mounted shower head would be great with even just a simple trellis over it covered in vines; a little privacy but more outdoor exposure.
This one is perfect for the side of your deck or off of a room. It’s just a little enclosed shower so the only people you would have to worry about are your family members or house guests. This particular one has windows and glass doors, but what I would do is just attach curtains to the windows for privacy. I love the idea of plants everywhere to make you feel like your really outside, but if you realize you need something, you can just pop inside to get it!
I just had to add this one in because it’s ammenities are awesome! First of all, it has a very simple and minimal design that is perfect for a modern home, but can still fit nicely into more traditional, country styles as well. But one of the best parts is that it plugs right into your hose. Now that’s simple plumbing! But it is also easily moveable so you can place in a corner when not in use and pull it out when you need it. Or maybe you want it in a corner; just add some shelves to the wall nearby for your bathing items.
I love, love, love this idea. Imagine being in the mountains of Colorado on a cool, crisp morning and showering while staring out upon the majestic view. Oh I want that now! This style would only work for a remote location or for you folks who love to bare it all for the world to see. This is probably a part of a deck or walkway that is connected to the house so it would be easy for you to get to from you mountain home. Especially if it is cold out, you may not want to stand there dripping wet for too long….
And lastly, you can always take a simple bath outdoors. I think this is only -relatively- practical if you have a nice view to look at while bathing. In this shot their is a calming lake to stare at, but the ocean, bay or mountains would be nice too. Or if you have a country setting, just the wilderness may be fabulous. I am not a big fan of baths, but if you want to use it like a jacuzzi and sit to read your book, then this could be a much less expensive option. And if you can place the tub near a wall with a mounted shower head or a standing shower if can be more than just your tub.
Of course, you can always build shower structures outdoors that have multiple showers or just one depending on your needs. But I loved these ideas of simple outdoor bathing. Hopefully you enjoyed these ideas as much as me and you head right out to make one yourself! If you want some ideas for how to install your own, This Old House has some great ideas here. Happy Bathing!
