What do you think about laying mirror over an entire wall?  Do you think that’s ghetto?  It’s not. Well, mirrors on a ceiling are ghetto, so try not to do that.  Using mirrors over an entire wall can make a space go from poopoo to woohoo!

Think the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles.  This Louis XIV style is opulent and inspiring and a perfect blend and placement of mirror and interior space. If a more traditional style is not your thing, do not worry.  Mirrors are one of those materials that transcend all design era’s and styles.  For a more modern or transitional look, use non-beveled, plate mirrors on an entire wall.  Make sure it covers the entire wall from corner-to-corner.  None of the drywall better be showing.  If you can’t afford to get it done properly, don’t do it at all. Wait till you can do it right. Otherwise your incomplete mirrored wall will be a disappoint to your guests, friends, and family for the rest of their life and yours.

If you do not have the option to use a single sheet of mirror to cover your entire wall, break it into three or more cuts. If you use only two sheets of mirror you will have an ugly seem directly in the center of the wall.  This is very distracting, especially when you’re trying to look at your pretty little face from across the room in your magnificent mirrored wall.

Something else you must be conscious of before placing the mirror is the existing switches and outlets on your wall.  If you happen to have a light switch on the wall(s) you are laying mirror on, make sure the light switch has a mirrored switch plate.  The little switch itself should be mirrored as well, and yes, they do make those too.  Mirrors are a more minimal look so you want it to blend in.

Mirrors can be very heavy, so please do not try to install it yourself.  Please hire someone to install it properly.  Seriously.  If that mirror comes crashing down on you because you decided to install it yourself, I will be the first one to say “I told you so.”
