Water damage is the worst thing that can happen to one’s home or place of business. There are so many possibilities in what can go wrong and what further damage can occur. This is why when there is water damage, whether it is caused by a pipeline that has burst or a natural environmental disaster, such as a hurricane, it is important for the consumer to fix and potentially replace the damage as quickly as possible. Water restoration requires special care and techniques to make sure that no further damage occurs and all damage has been restored to its original state.
Water restoration is a lengthy process in which one extracts and repairs all the damage caused to their residence and to their belongings, if it is needed. However, there are a few things that a consumer could do to make the process run more smoothly. First, before any water removal is done on the residence, a consumer must make sure to turn off all of their electricity. They would not want to use any household items that contain electricity for fear of a strong electrical shock. Also, if the water is not too high, one should mop up as much water as possible before the restoration company arrives. Lastly, remember to gather up any loose items that are on the floor and remove area rugs from the floor. This will make the process simpler for the restoration company to remove the excess water from the area.
Once the electrical is off, the restoration company will extract the water from the building using both a special vacuum pump for the water and dehumidifier to soak up the extra moisture trapped in the walls and floors. Using the dehumidifier is extremely important. Removing the moisture from the walls and floors prevents mold from forming and destroying the structure to the already fragile state of the building.
If a consumer has wood furniture that was harmed during the process of the water damage the furniture can be saved. However, it does take some patience. One must place the damaged object in a warm, non-humid place to dry, possibly even outside if the weather is nice. All the wood pieces should be carefully removed and left alone to dry. Once it is naturally dry, which may even take days depending upon the amount of moisture, one can glue and screw back together the pieces. If the color of the wood has changed, it may take some re-staining to regain the wood’s natural luster.
A consumer never plans on the amount of damage that can be caused by water. Water restoration gives the consumer a chance to get their life back on track with as little cost as possible. There is no need for addition damage such as mold to occur and bring more stress to the consumer. After all, the consumer has already suffered from a serious amount stress caused by the event that brought on the water damage. The restoration of their home, place of business, and possibly their belongings should be the least stressful part of the event.
