Indoor Lighting and Fixtures (Energy Savers)

Are you ready to go to lighting school? There is simply so much about lighting that people are unaware of. When it comes to finding the right indoor lighting, from ceiling fixtures to lamps, the game has changed from yesteryear. Interior illumination is all about saving energy, providing quality light and using light in the most efficient manner possible.

Indoor Lighting and Fixtures – Energy Efficient Lighting Design

If you’re planning a home renovation, or are presently remodeling your interior design, there are a few great tips to help you maximize lighting efficiency. When you choose to invest in energy efficient lighting setups, you’ll inevitably save money, while helping to reduce the strain on the local environment.

Quality over Quantity

Most people don’t realize that vision in the human body isn’t solely dependent upon the quantity of light, but rather the quality as well. Keeping this in mind, you won’t feel the need to over-light a room simply to “see better.” Think about the strategic placement of indoor lighting fixtures, and you can fill a room with adequate, high-quality light.

Rely on Task Lighting

Instead of installing light fixtures in areas such as a utility room, or closet, consider using a lighting fixture appropriate to the task. No, the little push button LED lamps don’t really cut it, but a small fixture possessing an energy efficient bulb will often get the job done. By instituting such a fix, you can reduce your need for additional ambient light.

The Fun Stuff – Indoor Lighting Fixtures (Energy Savers)

Nearly every contemporary lighting fixture comes with a recommended, energy-saving use chart, from track-lighting to multi-bulb lamps. When you’re choosing a design, or product line, look for the Energy Star label, boasting electronic efficiency. And when you’re purchasing the bulbs for use in your new fixtures, you’ll want to use energy-saving, soft-white florescent lighting for most spaces. This is especially true if you use your ceiling or wall-mounted lighting fixtures for more than two hours a day. For fixtures possessing bulbs upon move-in or rental, consider changing them with efficient bulbs.

Shopping for Energy-Efficient Indoor Lighting Fixtures

You’ll find more than a few retailers offering a variety of indoor lighting fixtures. The large home centers such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, Orchard Supply Hardware and True Value offer quite a few options in stock, and provide the ability to special order and view catalogs from some of the world’s premier illumination experts. There are also great lighting options available at home furnishings stores such as IKEA, if you live in a metropolitan area with a nearby location.

Local specialty stores are also great options to peruse energy-saving, indoor lighting fixtures. Oftentimes, you’ll be able to negotiate pricing at local specialty retailers, and this might be the best place to begin your shopping process.

Shopping Online

We do live in the 21st Century, and with that fact, there are opportunities to comparison shop or do all of your ordering online. If you are looking online for the best ENERGY STAR, energy-saving light fixtures, consider a few of these top brands: Good Earth, American Florescent, Litonia or Maxlite. Combined with energy-efficient bulbs, these fixtures will give you the most light for your buck.

I have a question. When I flick my light switch on and off, sometimes my florescent light comes on and sometimes it doesn't. Is that a dangerous think to do. Is there a problem with the switch or something in the attic. Thanks, Ann
